Biography

Professor Satesh Namasivayam brings over 20 years of experience in higher education. A third-generation mechanical engineer, he is a First Class Honours graduate in Mechanical Engineering and holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Queen Mary University of London. He also holds a professional certificate in System Thinking from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and is an HRD Corp Accredited Trainer. He is an award-winning specialist in curriculum design and learning innovation for engineering education. 

Over the past two decades, he has designed and delivered close to 15 comprehensive degree programmes spanning engineering and the built environment for multiple Malaysia-based universities, including foreign branch campuses. He has led and contributed to national accreditation evaluations for more than 20 engineering programmes, playing a key role in strengthening programme quality and outcomes across the sector. Internationally, he was the 1st Malaysian appointed by the Global Grand Challenges Committee of the National Academy of Engineering (USA) to review and mentor Grand Challenges Scholars Programmes at leading global universities.

Satesh has received numerous learning and teaching innovation awards, including the Ministry of Education Malaysia’s Award for Curriculum Innovation (AKRI). At ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´, he achieved a triple honour for teaching excellence: the Student Appreciation of Teaching Award, the Excellence in Teaching Award, and the Gold Award for Teaching and Learning Innovation.

Earlier in his career, Satesh was a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and made history as Malaysia’s first IMechE Young Members Chairman, as well as the 1st  Young Members Representative for the IMechE South-East Asia Region. He was also the 1st Malaysian recipient of the prestigious IMechE Young Members Award.

Throughout his career, he has held senior academic leadership roles including Deputy Dean, Dean, and Head of School across multiple universities. He previously served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Engineering Science and Technology, a Scopus-indexed journal, where his leadership led to multiple national recognitions, including the journal being ranked Malaysia’s top journal in green technology.

Collectively, he has delivered over 150 publications and secured more than USD 360,000 in funding through industry-based consultancy projects and competitive university research grants.
